Manga
Nante Suteki ni Japanesque is a series of girls' novels by Saeko Himuro set among the court nobility of the Heian period, also adapted into manga, a television drama and an NHK-FM radio drama. The first stories appeared in Shōsetsu Junior and Cobalt in 1981 and 1982, and the first book was published by Cobalt Bunko in 1984. It became one of Cobalt Bunko's most popular series, with 10 books through 1991, and had sold over 8 million copies in total by January 2022. The heroine's predicament of being relentlessly pressured by her parents to marry reflected Himuro's own situation at the time.
