Secrets of The Earth
Manga
Secrets of the Earth is a manga by Aika Tsubota, a 12-year-old girl from Hikawa, Shimane Prefecture. It deals with environmental issues: the natural workings of the Earth, destruction of nature through pollution and what people can do to protect it. After the author died at age 12, her parents and the town reprinted it, and it drew national attention through newspaper coverage. It was introduced abroad and won the United Nations Environment Programme's Global 500 award, the first given to a child. Created as a school assignment, it was published commercially in 2004 and has been translated into 11 languages, including English.
